Day 1 of Tour

Day 1: Nairobi - Maasai Mara

You will be picked up by our representative, take part in a short briefing and drive to Maasai Mara. You will go through Narok Town before entering the plains on your way to camp. You will enjoy lunch either in the dining hall or under the shade of an indigenous tree. Enjoy a few minutes of relaxation before you depart for an afternoon game drive in search of the “Big 5”. Maasai Mara is named after the traditional Maasai inhabitants and the Mara River. You will be driven by the river which is a great place to spot wildlife. This area is a photographer’s delight where, with any luck, you will be able to take amazing pictures of the hippo and crocodile in the water. The small size of the lake area funnels all varieties of animal into a tight space. The park allows for off road driving which means that guests can venture into plains where hundreds and thousands of animals live. Later in the day you will return to camp for dinner and your overnight stay.

This hilly region is both humid and fertile and is crossed by Mara and Talek Rivers full of crocodile and hippo. The abundance of water and excellent availability of food are the reasons Maasai Mara has the greatest population of wild animals in the whole of Africa. There is a particularly dramatic spectacle between July to October, where in you can experience the annual migration of huge herds of Gnus and Zebras. This migration also invites the predators such as hyena, jackal, leopard and lion to closely follow these herds. Other optional activities include the Balloon Safari US$ 400 per person, Maasai Cultural Village visit - US$ 20 per person and a Nature Walk - US$ 20 per person.
