• June to October – Best for the Great Migration & dry season safaris
This is one of the most popular times to visit the Serengeti. Dry conditions make wildlife easier to spot, while the Great Migration is typically found in the western and northern Serengeti, where dramatic river crossings may occur. Cooler temperatures and clear skies also make this an excellent period for photography.

• November to December – Best for green landscapes
The short rains transform the plains into vibrant green grasslands. Wildlife remains abundant, visitor numbers are generally lower and the changing scenery offers beautiful photographic opportunities.

• January to March – Best for the calving season
Southern Serengeti becomes the centre of the Great Migration as hundreds of thousands of wildebeest gather to give birth. This is one of the most exciting times to visit, with excellent predator activity and remarkable wildlife encounters.

• April to May – Best for quieter safaris
The long rains bring lush landscapes and fewer visitors. Although occasional rain showers occur, wildlife viewing remains rewarding and the Serengeti offers a peaceful safari experience away from the busiest travel periods.

2. What are the luggage restrictions?

Scheduled safari flights operate using small aircraft and have limited luggage capacity. Guests should bring soft-sided bags only (no hard suitcases).
The standard luggage allowance is 15 kg per person, including hand luggage.
Additional luggage allowance can be arranged in advance, subject to availability and aircraft capacity. Please contact us before travelling if you require extra baggage allowance.

Is this a private safari?
Accommodation at Serengeti Pioneer Camp is private. Unless a private safari vehicle has been requested, game drives are shared with a small number of guests, with a maximum of six guests per vehicle, ensuring an intimate safari experience and excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.

How many nights do you recommend?
This itinerary includes three nights in the Serengeti, allowing plenty of time to explore different areas of the park. Travellers with more time may wish to combine this safari with Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire National Park or a Zanzibar beach extension.

Can I combine this safari with other destinations?

Yes. Families are welcome at Serengeti Pioneer Camp. The camp offers spacious tented accommodation and an authentic safari experience suitable for families, although some activities, such as the optional balloon safari, have age restrictions.
