Overview

The Sirai House Experience

Exclusive use of Luxury Home in Laikipia | with 6 private suites each with private bathroom and veranda | 5 nights | accommodation + experiences

The House

Set within the extraordinary wilderness of Borana Conservancy, Sirai House is one of Kenya's most distinctive private safari residences. Created as a true African home rather than a conventional lodge, it combines complete privacy, sophisticated design and highly personalised service with an extraordinary connection to the surrounding wilderness.

Sirai is reserved exclusively for your party. Six beautifully appointed private suites are arranged around the main house, giving families and groups the space to come together while still offering a sense of individual privacy. Each suite has its own character, while the larger living spaces create the atmosphere of a beautifully considered private residence rather than a hotel.

The design is deeply connected to its setting. Local materials, African craftsmanship and carefully selected artwork sit alongside generous living spaces and expansive views across Borana. The house occupies its own 250-acre private enclave within the conservancy, positioned on a ridge beneath Mount Kenya, with the wilderness stretching out in every direction.

Life at Sirai is deliberately unstructured. Meals can be enjoyed wherever you choose and around your own schedule, whether that means a leisurely breakfast, lunch overlooking the plains or dinner beneath the African sky. The house also offers a heated 20-metre infinity pool, spa facilities, gym, library, billiards and an extensive wine cellar, allowing the experience to feel as complete when you are not on safari as when you are.

The result is something increasingly rare in luxury travel: your own private African home, with an entire wilderness conservancy beyond the gates.

Your Private Residence at Sirai House

Sirai House is reserved exclusively for your party, with six private suites arranged throughout the house. Each suite offers privacy and its own connection to the surrounding landscape, while Suites 3–6 also benefit from private shared drawing rooms.

Every Suite Features

  • Private bedroom and bathroom
  • Bathtub
  • Outdoor shower
  • Fireplace
  • Private veranda or terrace with Panoramic views across the Laikipia plains

The Experience in a Nutshell

Sirai is designed around freedom. There is no fixed safari timetable and no requirement to follow a set programme. Your private guide and vehicle allow each day to be shaped around your interests, the wildlife and the conditions in the conservancy.

Safari takes place in custom 4x4 Land Cruisers equipped with reclining leather seats, fridges and USB charging, accompanied by experienced KPSGA-accredited guides. You can head out for an early morning game drive, return for a leisurely lunch, walk through the wilderness or venture out again at sunset.

Day 1 From Nairobi to Sirai House - Laikipia

Your Sirai experience begins in Nairobi, with your onward journey into the Laikipia wilderness.

Whether you have just arrived in Kenya or are continuing from a stay in the capital, we arrange your private transfer directly to Sirai House. For guests who prefer to maximise their time at the property, Sirai's own Pilatus PC-12 can fly from Nairobi to Borana in around 30–35 minutes, followed by a scenic drive through the conservancy to the house. Private charter and helicopter options can also be arranged.

If travelling by road, the landscape gradually changes as Nairobi gives way to open countryside and the foothills of Mount Kenya.

On arrival, you will be welcomed into Sirai and shown around your private residence before settling into the relaxed rhythm of the house.

There is no need to rush into your first safari. Depending on your arrival time, enjoy lunch overlooking the wilderness, take a swim in the infinity pool or simply explore the house and its surroundings.

Later, your guide can introduce you to Borana with a gentle afternoon drive, before stopping for your first sundowner as the light fades across Laikipia.

Return to Sirai for dinner and your first night in your private African home.

Note

An exclusive-use private safari house set within Borana Conservancy in Laikipia. Sirai House accommodates one private party at a time, offering six suites, spacious indoor and outdoor living areas, a swimming pool and highly personalised service. Guests have a private guide and safari vehicle and can tailor their days around game drives, walking, horseback riding, cycling, conservation experiences and time at the house. The property combines the privacy and space of a private African residence with access to the exceptional wildlife and conservation landscape of Borana Conservancy, with views towards Mount Kenya.

Day 2 Safari in the Borana Wilderness

Wake to the sounds of the wilderness and begin your first full day with an early breakfast before heading out with your private guide.

Your custom 4x4 Land Cruiser is equipped for comfortable full-day exploration, with reclining leather seats, a fridge and USB charging. Your KPSGA-accredited guide will shape the drive around your interests and the wildlife activity of the day.

Borana's varied landscape of open plains, woodland and rocky hills supports an impressive diversity of wildlife. Lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, cheetah, reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra and both black and white rhino can all be encountered here.

Rather than rushing between sightings, the emphasis is on enjoying the wilderness at your own pace. Stop for a bush breakfast in a beautiful setting, continue exploring or return to Sirai for a leisurely lunch.

Later, head out again for an afternoon drive as the temperature begins to fall. Your guide can position you for the best chance of seeing wildlife during the golden hours before stopping somewhere special for a private sundowner.

Return to Sirai for dinner beneath the stars.

Today is about discovering what makes Borana different: exceptional wildlife, extraordinary conservation and the freedom to experience it privately.

Day 3 Ngare Ndare Forest & the Blue Pools

Today takes you beyond the classic safari landscape and into the foothills of Mount Kenya.

After breakfast, set out towards Ngare Ndare Forest, reached from Borana's southern boundary. The forest forms an important wildlife corridor used by elephants travelling between Lewa Conservancy and the higher ground of Mount Kenya.

Walk beside the river or experience the forest from its spectacular treetop walkway before continuing towards the famous Blue Pools.

Here, the experience becomes wonderfully adventurous. The clear azure pools are surrounded by forest canopy, with waterfalls cascading into the water below. Depending on conditions and your preference, you can swim, climb the waterfalls or take the plunge into the pools.

This is a full-day experience, so enjoy a picnic lunch in the forest before continuing your exploration. The combination of ancient forest, wildlife corridor and crystal-clear mountain water provides a striking contrast to the open plains of Borana.

Return to Sirai later in the afternoon, with time to relax at the house before dinner.

Today is a reminder that a safari at Sirai is about far more than game drives,  it's about experiencing the landscape in all its forms.

Day 4 A Day Designed Entirely Around You

By now, Sirai will begin to feel like your own private home in the wilderness. Today is deliberately left open so you can decide exactly how you want to experience it.

You might begin with another early game drive, perhaps returning to a favourite area of Borana or focusing on a species you have not yet encountered. Alternatively, choose a slower morning at the house, with breakfast at your leisure followed by a swim, spa treatment or time simply enjoying the views.

For those interested in conservation, Sirai can arrange a rhino-tracking experience with Borana's dedicated conservation team. Accompanied by scouts, you gain an insight into the work involved in protecting the conservancy's endangered rhino populations.

You could also explore the conservancy on horseback or by e-bike, depending on your interests.

Later, head out for an afternoon safari before stopping for a private sundowner.

Return to Sirai for dinner, perhaps followed by an evening in the Club Room, a quiet drink from the cellar or simply time beneath the African sky.

With no other guests to accommodate and no fixed schedule to follow, the greatest luxury today is having the freedom to decide what you want your day to be.

Day 5 Horseback, e-bike safari or another walking experience.

Your final full day at Sirai is an opportunity to return to the experiences you have enjoyed most, or choose something completely different.

For an early start, head out with your guide as Borana comes to life. Follow wildlife across the plains, revisit a favourite area or simply allow the morning to unfold around whatever you encounter.

If you would rather slow down, Sirai itself provides an extraordinary place to spend the day. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, take a swim in the heated infinity pool, book a spa treatment or settle somewhere quiet with a book from the library.

For a final adventure, consider an afternoon on horseback, an e-bike safari or another walking experience. Those looking for something particularly memorable can also arrange a helicopter excursion, taking in the landscapes of Mount Kenya and the wider region from the air.

As the sun begins to set, head out for one final private sundowner before returning to Sirai.

Day 6 Farewell to Sirai - Where to next?

Enjoy one final morning at Sirai, with the choice of a relaxed breakfast overlooking the wilderness or one last early game drive through Borana before saying farewell.

From Laikipia, your journey can continue seamlessly into another exceptional destination, allowing Sirai to form part of a wider African itinerary.

Maasai MaraContinue south into the Mara ecosystem for classic big-cat viewing, vast open plains and the Great Migration in season.

SamburuHead north into Kenya's dramatic northern landscapes for a very different safari environment, distinctive wildlife and opportunities to experience Samburu culture.

Kenya's Coast or LamuAfter the wilderness, unwind beside the Indian Ocean. Continue to a private villa on the coast, the beaches of Diani, or the Swahili atmosphere of Lamu.

ZanzibarCross the Indian Ocean for white-sand beaches, turquoise waters and the cultural character of Zanzibar.
