While in the park for chimpanzee trekking, you have many chances to see different animals like monkeys, baboons and many plant species. Nyungwe is one of the oldest rainforests in Africa, made of dense Afromontane forests, bamboo-covered slopes, grasslands and wetlands. It is also a regional biodiversity hotspot, supporting 1,068 recorded plant species, 322 bird species, 75 known mammal species and 13 different primate species.Nyungwe is home to many species of chimpanzees, plus owl-faced and colobus monkeys. The Canopy Walkway, part of the Igishigishigi Trail, is a high suspension bridge with views over the valley and surrounding forests. The trail runs to the Kamiranzovu Marsh, with its birdlife, orchids and waterfall.
