Overview

This safari pits you against the mighty Okavango Delta where, isolated and in a mokoro, it will only be you and pristine African wilderness to be explored. Mekoro excursions explore the Delta’s miraculous waterways and also allow for some great encounters with aquatic birds and mammals. Safari walks give the ultimate African adventure as one experience the magic of the Okavango on foot.

Day 1

Day 1: To the Okavango Delta (Mokoro Excursions)

  • We will pick you up early in the morning and head for the Okavango Delta to meet with experienced mokoro polers.
  • The Okavango Delta, Africa’s last great unspoiled wilderness, is situated in the northern reaches of Botswana.
  • It is a vast ecosystem created as the Okavango River spills over onto the shifting sands of the parched Kalahari Desert.
  • It then fans out to form the Okavango Delta, a 16 000 square–kilometre wilderness of papyrus swamps, shallow reed–beds and fertile floodplains, dotted with islands and laced with a network of channels and lagoons.
  • You will board your mokoro around 0800 hrs.
  • Thereafter you are silently poled along the Okavango Delta's quiet waterways to one of its many islands where you will set up camp for two (2) nights.
  • You will set off on foot at this island as soon as the heat of the day relents, on your first safari walk within the Okavango Delta.
  • Expect to encounter a fantastic variety of large game during these safari walks such as elephants, hippos, giraffes, zebras, etc.

Note

We use mobile camps for our safaris. These are not permanent structures. This is basically in line with Botswana Government's conservation strategy that dictates that mobile safari operators should leave nothing behind but only "our footprints". In this way the natural environment remains relatively undisturbed and as pristine as possible for future generations

Day 2

Day 2: Mokoro rides & Safari walks

  • Wake up early morning for coffee/tea, cereals, rusks and cooked breakfast.
  • After breakfast you will set off with your guide for your morning safari walk in the Okavango Delta.
  • As you explore the Okavango on foot you will once again be searching for game as the Okavango is world famous for its rich biodiversity.
  • These safari walks are led by local guides who are part of the community that lives on the fringes the Delta.
  • On these outings you may come across a combination of game animals and you will also be presented with excellent photographic opportunities to capture the beauty of the Okavango.
  • It is possible to spot game such as elephants, hippos, zebras, etc. during these safari walks.
  • Come back from the safari walk around midday to chill and enjoy your lunch.
  • In the afternoon you will set off once again to explore the Okavango Delta either on foot or in a mokoro.
  • Return to camp in the late afternoon to have a shower and thereafter enjoy a campfire cooked dinner.
